About
Raymond Gun is an organisation set up to promote emerging artists, whilst exploring new ways of showcasing art beyond the traditional gallery format.
Most recently Raymond Gun collaborated with renowned architects Jimmy Simpson and Douglas Ardern in our first public art/architecture venture, a response to the Greenpeace Airplot competition. Our entry, SKYBARN, was exhibited at the Greenpeace exhibition along with the other shortlisted entries, at the Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf, South Bank. To find out more about the project visit the Skybarn page of our website
Our last event PLATFORM was an exhibition featuring artists selected from an open submission competition. It took place in Vyner St - one of the world's major contemporary art centres - in September. For more information, see the "previous events" section in the side menu of the website.
Our first show TRANSIMULATION took place in June. In collaboration with Corsica studios and St Modwen, we held a show in a shop unit in Elephant and Castle shopping Centre. The show brought together three artists exploring the possibilities of Autonomous image creation in the age of the "Hyperreal". A key aspect of the Hyperreal is the commodification of the image- staging the show in a shopping centre explored this idea further. For more information and images of the show please see the "previous" section of the website.
The organisation's name derives from "Ray Gun"- the pseudonym used by the artist Claes Oldenburg when he turned his studio into a shop for a series of exhibitions in the early 1960s.
